Opening in April 2026
The University of South Carolina Brain Health Center delivers exceptional diagnostics, treatment and support services to patients with cognitive conditions including Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
Located on the university’s Health Sciences Campus, the reimagined 65,000-square-foot facility features state-of-the-art technology and clinical and research spaces.
Designed with patient care and comfort at the forefront, the outpatient facility offers 16 exam, testing and treatment rooms; an eight-bay infusion room for therapeutic treatments; and spaces dedicated to physical, occupational and speech therapy.
First Level
Imaging
State-of-the art technology, including a 3-Tesla MRI and South Carolina’s only 7-Tesla
MRI dedicated to patient care, allow doctors to detect and treat cognitive conditions
earlier and more accurately as well as create personalized treatment plans. The scanners
also support expanded clinical research efforts to improve brain health across the
state.
Physical and Occupational Therapy
Designed for one-on-one sessions or structured lifestyle programs, the suite offers
patients experiencing mild cognitive changes a place to build strength and maintain
daily living skills. Patients collaborate closely with providers on activities that
support brain function, improve mobility, reduce the risk of falls and improve quality
of life.
Public Art
Artwork throughout the facility was created by University of South Carolina faculty
member and visual artist Dawn Hunter. Drawing inspiration from the work of 19th century
neuroscientist Santiago Ramón y Cajal, Hunter’s artwork creates a visual intersection
between culture, research and clinical practice.
Second Level
Brain Health Administration Suite
The hub for clinical and non-clinical faculty and staff dedicated to serving the needs of patients and caregivers. The mixed-use space allows the team to support the daily management and operations of the Brain Health Center and statewide clinics.
Clinical Suite
Brain Health Network Clinic
One of seven USC clinics located across the state where patients experiencing cognitive changes receive advanced diagnostics, post-screening evaluations and follow-up support.
Infusion Therapy
This calm and private setting offers eight spacious rooms designed for comfort while receiving the latest infusion-based therapies. Patients enjoy reclining chairs and an abundance of natural light as well as space for caregiver interaction.
Neurology Clinic
Patients and caregivers work closely with a general or behavioral neurologist or epilepsy and neuropsychology provider to create a clear, personalized treatment plan to ensure seamless collaboration across care teams.
Ground and Third Levels
USC researchers are unlocking the mysteries of the brain, with special emphasis on stroke, aphasia, autism, Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
With neuroscience expertise throughout the university, future development of these spaces will reflect the university’s expertise across multiple disciplines as well as South Carolinians’ need for increased access to specialized cognitive care.
Wellness Room
The flexible, mixed-use space supports the emotional and personal needs of patients and staff. A calm place to rest and recharge, the private room offers space for meditation, prayer or quiet reflection.
