The South Carolina Honors College is continuing the transition to an advising model that provides Honors students with a single academic advisor who is an expert in both their major and Honors requirements. This university-wide initiative aims to streamline advising and enhance the overall student experience.
Advising Changes in Honors
Phase 2 begins fall 2025 and includes students in the following academic units:
- Arnold School of Public Health (ASPH)
- School of Music
- College of Pharmacy
- The following McClausland College of Arts and Sciences majors:
- Political Science
- International Studies
- Cyber Policy & Ethics
- Biology
Note: Phase 1 included Molinaroli College of Engineering and Computing, College of Information and Communications, Darla Moore School of Business and the College of Nursing.
For Honors students pursuing dual degrees:
Major #1 in a phase one college + major #2 not in a phase one or two college. | Student will be assigned a UAA with Honors-specific training in the phase one or two college. They will also be assigned a second UAA for their second major. |
Majors #1 AND #2 both in a phase one or two college. | Student will be assigned two UAAs with Honors-specific training in both majors. |
The Honors College will continue to provide student programming, unique events and valuable engagement opportunities that we have always offered our students.
Students participating in later phases
Later phases will eventually include all other academic colleges, but students not included in phases 1 and 2 will continue to be advised by both an Honors advisor and undergraduate academic advisor (UAA) within their major in fall 2025. The timeline for later phases will be implemented on a rolling basis, and students will be notified of any changes in advance.
Appointments will continue to be 30 minutes with each advisor. Due to staffing changes, students may be assigned to a new Honors advisor for the fall 2025 semester. Students will be notified of their Honors advisor assignment via email on August 4, and the change will be reflected in EAB Navigate after the add/drop deadline on August 25.
