Why did you choose USC Rice School of Law?
I chose USC Rice School of Law specifically for its unique Children’s Law concentration. This was a specialized program I couldn't find anywhere else that catered to my legal interest and career aspirations. Coming in as an out-of-state student, I also wanted a law school that would give me the resources, network, and flexibility to thrive in either North Carolina or South Carolina.
What advice would you give a first-year law student?
Run your own race!! If you spend all your time watching the other lanes, you’re going to trip on your own lap around the track. What works for someone else might not work for you, and that is completely okay.
Give yourself plenty of grace during your first semester; treat mistakes as lessons to apply to your second semester. Most importantly, find your people. You don't need a massive crowd. I found two close friends who became my absolute rock, and they are the biggest reason I succeeded during my 1L year.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
During my 1L fall, I was elected to an executive position on the Family Law Society executive board. Stepping into leadership so early in my law school career was incredibly rewarding. It immediately opened doors for me, allowing me to build genuine connections with fellow students, practicing attorneys, and South Carolina judges.
