Judicial Scholars Program

The University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law Judicial Scholars (“Judicial Scholars”) is a program designed to provide students with a unique opportunity to gain insight into the roles and functions of the courts of South Carolina and provide professional development opportunities within the judiciary.

Overview

Judicial Scholars is a paid, full-time, 9-week judicial internship program open to first-year law students enrolled at the Joseph F. Rice School of Law.  Judicial Scholars learn from South Carolina justices and judges and work within the South Carolina Judiciary alongside current law clerks and staff attorneys.

  • 3 weeks at South Carolina Supreme Court
  • 3 weeks at South Carolina Court of Appeals
  • 3 weeks at South Carolina Circuit Court
  • Specific dates dependent on the upcoming terms of court

Application Process

  1. Resume (without GPA or class rank) and
  2. Personal Statement (one page sharing the ways in which your experiences, achievements and background inform the perspective you will bring to the Judicial Scholars Program, and how the program will impact your long-term career goals)
  • Applications will be collected by Career & Professional Development and reviewed by a committee of Law School faculty.
  • Applications must be submitted through the Symplicity job posting, which will be posted in the winter and due in February. No late entries will be accepted.
