The University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law Judicial Scholars (“Judicial Scholars”) is a program designed to provide students with a unique opportunity to gain insight into the roles and functions of the courts of South Carolina and provide professional development opportunities within the judiciary.
Judicial Scholars is a paid, full-time, 9-week judicial internship program open to first-year law students enrolled at the Joseph F. Rice School of Law. Judicial Scholars learn from South Carolina justices and judges and work within the South Carolina Judiciary alongside current law clerks and staff attorneys.
“My experience with the Judicial Scholars program greatly affirmed my career goal
of pursuing a judicial clerkship. I began the program with the hopes of narrowing
down which level of judge I wanted to pursue. With all of my experience thus far,
I have come to enjoy trial-level courts. This led me to want to pursue a federal district
and/or state circuit-level court.”
