Why did you choose USC Rice School of Law?
I chose the University of South Carolina School of Law because I’ve been a lifelong Gamecock fan, but what truly drew me to the school is its community. I appreciate that it offers opportunities for every area of interest, allowing students to find their own path while receiving a well-rounded legal education. I’m also excited by the strong alumni network, where generations of graduates continue to support and mentor one another. That sense of connection and community makes South Carolina the place where I want to begin my legal career.
What advice would you give a first-year law student?
My advice to a 1L is to take it one day at a time, especially in the beginning. Law school is an adjustment for everyone, whether you’re a first-generation law student or not. Stay organized, be prepared, and trust that you’ll find your rhythm. Consistency and preparation will take you a long way.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
One accomplishment I’m especially proud of is working at the Law Offices of Morgan Martin during my 2L and 3L years. I was able to work in person over the summers and remotely during the school year, which gave me the opportunity to spend a week clerking during a highly publicized Stand Your Ground hearing. Beyond the experience itself, what made it especially meaningful was working alongside South Carolina Law alumni who invested in my growth and demonstrated the strength of the school’s lifelong professional network. As a first-generation law student, that experience truly taught me how to practice law beyond the classroom and gave me confidence as I began my legal career.
