Background
Richard M. Schulz, Ph.D., professor emeritus at the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy, joined the faculty in 1987. Prior to this, Dr. Schulz practiced as a pharmacist in both hospital and community settings. Throughout his tenure, Dr. Schulz was actively involved in teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as mentoring students and junior faculty. He received the college's Teacher of the Year award in 2001 and the Researcher of the Year award in 1999 and 2007.
Dr. Schulz's research focused on medication adherence, patient quality of life, and the impact of pharmacist interventions. He received the Journal of Managed Care + Specialty Pharmacy Award for Excellence in 2021. He served as an adjunct professor in the Arnold School of Public Health at USC and collaborated extensively with the Office for the Study of Aging. He retired in 2017 after more than 30 years of service, leaving a lasting impact on both the university's research community and the broader pharmacy profession.
