With more than 360,000 living alumni, the University of South Carolina has stories to tell, and Carolinian is here to tell them. From celebrated artists, scientists and business leaders to everyday alumni who embody the spirit of Carolina, this is our story — and this is your magazine.

Carolinian is published three times a year and distributed to members of the USC Alumni Association. Select features from the print edition can be found here, alongside web-exclusive stories, videos and interviews that celebrate our successes, revisit our history and remind us what it means to be a Carolinian. Forever to thee!

The Mighty Sound in NYC!

If you weren’t at the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, there’s a good chance you watched the magic on live TV. Gamecocks tuned in coast-to-coast to watch the Mighty Sound of the Southeast strut their stuff through the streets of New York, and as loud as they sounded marching into Herald Square, they didn’t miss a beat. Neither did Carolinian.

Strike up the Band

Gamecocks Take Manhattan

This summer, Carolinian traveled to New York City to meet a cross section of proud alumni living, working and chasing their dreams in the city that never sleeps. From network TV to the New York Public Library, from Broadway to Bryant Park, these Gamecocks have blossomed in the Big Apple.

Canvassing the City

Garrison Gist played fullback for the Gamecocks. Now the School of Visual Art and Design graduate is scoring big as a muralist and painter.

Banking on Bennett

As executive director of external affairs at First Citizens Bank, James Bennett strengthens community engagement. As a first-generation college student at USC, he learned just what that means.

Inside Carolina

Inside Statewide Impact

In South Carolina, 97 percent of newborn infants are screened for hearing ability — and 3.1 percent do not pass. Inside Carolina talks to a mother and son whose lives have both been impacted by USC’s Montgomery Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic. Also, as Carolina Day approaches, we sit down with two State House leaders to get their perspective on how the Legislature and USC can work together to meet South Carolina’s challenge.
